Write Web Ad
How to Write Good Ads
General Rules
- Capitalize each word.
- Do not include product brand names, but the use of "Softonic" or "Softonic.com" is acceptable in the description lines.
- Use complete sentences.
- Writing should be based on the CloudCrowd Core Style Guide
The 1st Line is the Heading
The first line of each ad is a Heading. It should stand alone. 18-25 characters.
The Heading can end in a period, exclamation mark, or question mark, but does not need ending punctuation.
Examples of good HeadingsPrevent PC InfectionsAntivirus Software Updates
Exception: Your third Heading needs to use the GPN.
Example:If your GPN is "Web Browser", a good third Heading would be "Powerful Web Browser".If your GPN is "Recipe Software", a good third Heading would be "Easy Recipe Software".
The 2nd and 3rd lines provide Description
Length: 28-35 characters
Use proper punctuation. However, you can leave out the final punctuation at the end of the 2nd Description line.
The description lines can take the following forms:
- Each reads as a single, separated sentence. Example:
Enjoy 123 Free Web Games Today!
Download Them Now From Softonic!
- Note that the first sentence can spill over onto the second description line. Example:
Get All Of Your Photo Editing Tools
Today! Free Download At Softonic!
- Alternatively, the lines can combine to form a single sentence. Example:
Scan Your Drives With This Free
Softonic Antivirus Download.
More about the Generic Product Name (GPN)
- Make sure your GPN is a THING and that it is not too VAGUE.
Examples of good GPN:
Photo Editor
Web Browser
Computer Game
Examples of Unacceptable GPN:
Retouch Photos (Not a Thing)
Game (Too vague)
Braun Razor (Mentions the brand)
- The GPN should be long enough to be useful but short enough to fit at least one other word into the third Heading (see above). Ideally, we would like you to be able to add context to the GPN as your third Heading, however, it is not a rejection reason if the GPN is used alone.
