WD-1: Content Reviews aka “Writers Review Writers”
For a long time, we’ve been having origin writer work immediately reviewed by a review editor. This process has been efficient but has led to too many rejections of well written, but not grammatically or syntactically perfect content.
We’ve explored a couple of different ideas, such as the idea of eliminating the “reject” option for reviewers, which would require them to either fix-up the original submission or approve it.
What we’ve decided to do, though, is expand the entire workflow by adding a new stage called Content Review. On projects of this type, writer tasks will be reviewed not by editors but by other writers, and the scope of the review will be a Content Review instead of a Full Edit.
Content Reviews focus on these questions:
- Did the writer follow all of the content instructions properly?
- Is the work well-written?
Reviewers on Content Review projects are currently instructed not to reject work for grammar or syntax reasons unless the reviewing writer counts at least 5 errors, or sees evidence of serious problems.
When the Origin Writer passes the Content Review, their work is considered Approved and they will get paid. Our system will take the approved work and put it through a Full Edit, which is our standard Origin and Review edit pass. The origin editor will have the opportunity to correct mistakes if they’re rejected.
We’ll be observing this new model (think of it as a beta) and will probably continue to make changes. Please post your feedback to the thread in the Worker Support Forum.
We’re hoping this will significantly reduce work rejections and the accompanying frustration!
